Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse Restaurant and hotel is open daily from the 9th of June until the end of August, 2014. The lighthouse is open on demand also in May and September, for groups.
A combination lighthouse and pilot station was built on Kylmäpihlaja, the outermost island of Rauma in 1952. It replaced a lightship which was placed in Kemi after the Kylmäpihlaja lighthouse was built. The sturdy lighthouse tower rises 31 meters above the foundation and 36 meters above the sea. It has 12 storeys and 104 steps. Old times the lighthouse provided dwellings for 12 pilots, 8 pilot cutter caretakers and two ligthouse keepers. Mighty diesel generators in the cellar produced electricity for the lighthouse equpiment. The lighthouse is now connected to mains electiricity. The light range has been reduced to 17 nautical miles from the original 27.
We welcome you to Kylmäpihlaja to experience the tranquility of the island. You will most likely fall in love with it and return year after year!
